With the introduction of the Internet and the “getting on-line” era, our desktop software started changing a bit, asking for your permission to access the Internet in order to grab some sort of an update or a patch. Also, we started to have fully fledged web applications running in the browser like Zoho and Gmail and also other real mobile applications running on iPhones, iPads and Androids. Later, with the expansion of the Internet, the creation of networks like Yahoo and Google and other social ones like Facebook, software changed drastically. When we did not have the Internet, the software we developed and used was mainly (or only) in the form of stand alone desktop applications. Important questions now are, will the software landscape change again. Your desktop application (if you still have any) became much “thinner” with storage and processing being done on-line....
